Оказывается, что для версии 6.0 переход (upgrade) на 6.5 не нужен - ключи подойдут.
Обновление нужно если мажорные версии разные - с 5.5 на 6.0, например.
Такие дела.

I kicked off our appliance upgrade this AM, it all went well until it got about 3/4 the way done and hung on " starting VCenter web service" or something to that effect, then failed out. Looked at the console of the new appliance and it was hung at the VMware splash screen, no SSH etc. In the log I get:
8gEX-Xsia","result":"{\n \"status\": \"error\", \n \"info\": [], \n \"question\": null, \n \"progress_message\": {\n \"args\": [\n \"VMware vCenter Server\"\n ], \n \"id\": \"install.ciscommon.component.starting\", \n \"localized\": \"Starting VMware vCenter Server...\", \n \"translatable\": \"Starting %(0)s...\"\n }, \n \"warning\": [], \n \"error\": {\n \"resolution\": {\n \"id\": \"install.vpxd.action.failed.resolution\", \n \"localized\": \"Please refer to vSphere documentation to troubleshoot or Please contact VMware Support.\", \n \"translatable\": \"Please refer to vSphere documentation to troubleshoot or Please contact VMware Support.\"\n }, \n \"detail\": [\n {\n \"args\": [\n \"firstboot\"\n ], \n \"id\": \"install.vpxd.action.failed\", \n \"localized\": \"VMware VirtualCenter failed firstboot.\", \n \"translatable\": \"VMware VirtualCenter failed %(0)s.\"\n }, \n {\n \"args\": [\n \"vmware-vpxd\"\n ], \n \"id\": \"install.ciscommon.service.failstart\", \n \"localized\": \"An error occurred while starting service 'vmware-vpxd'\", \n \"translatable\": \"An error occurred while starting service '%(0)s'\"\n }\n ], \n \"componentKey\": \"vpxd\", \n \"problemId\": \"install.vpxd.action.failed\"\n }, \n \"progress\": 65\n}","isFinal":"true"}
I can't find much on the net about this error. One post did mention drive sizes which made be think maybe the appliance I selected for the upgrade (small) is too small and I need to go up a level.
Last year we did increase our DB partition size because it was filling up. Which appliance size should we go with?
A Windows VM can react with a reboot-loop if it finds itself in a environement that no longer looks like it looked last time.
A very triial and mostly harmless reason could be a changed nvram-file.
This can result in a changed boot-order for example.
So check the Bootorder in BIOS or EFI first.
By the version change for VMware it may also be possible - that the Windows-mass-storage drivers no longer work.
The old version may have assigned the vmdks as IDE - while the current VM is configured with SATA.
When I have to troubleshoot such a VM I usually check boot-order first.
Then I check vmx-file - to verify that all VMDKs are still used like they were before.
If it still fails - it is a good idea to boot the VM into a Windows-LIVECD.
With the LveCD you can find also reasons that are not trivial.
I have a Nested vmware lab running on my laptop usung vmware workstation and wanted to expand it . My lab is in 192.168.199.0/24 subnet. this lab was setup using auto lab guide. Im not sure how to connect my server running esxi 6 u2 as an host to my current setup. I am able to ping the external ESXI host from my VM's in workstation, but when i try to connect it via vCenter webclient/C# client. I get error network out of range. But I can ping the ESXI server from my vCenter server and appliance. Is it possible for you to share me your setup details
I have a cisco layer 3 switch that i can use.
I want the server to be in same subnet of 192.168.199.0/24
Any suggestions are appreciated
Thanks
David
Don't know what happened. Logs show this going back quite a few days. First indication of anything wrong was web client was not working. Restarted everything and now vpxd won't start and can't connect with thick client either.
vpxd logs say connection refused to localhost port 10080, which is invsrv. invsrv log just says 'invalid credentials' connecting to ldap - which is the psc/sso service.
This is a clean install, not an upgrade. External PSC.
I've tried resetting the inventory service db, but that didn't help.
Anyone know how to troubleshoot / fix this?

3 reboots later, still good, feeling more and more like this issue is behind me now.
Hi Wil -
I actually got impatient and removed them last night and it turns out that, in my circumstances, there's no problem. It seems they were added some time ago when I played around with alternatives to bridged networking. As you noted, one virtual interface was for private networking and the other was for NAT. Since all my virtual machines now exclusively use bridged networking, deleting those virtual interfaces caused no problems. I referred to https://thornelabs.net/2013/10/18/manually-add-and-remove-vmware-fusion-virtual-adapters.html for help with removing them.
I do have one related question though. The following tunnel is also defined on the host OS:
utun0: flags=8051<UP,POINTOPOINT,RUNNING,MULTICAST> mtu 1380
inet6 fe80::7ddf:16d6:6448:17f1%utun0 prefixlen 64 scopeid 0xb
inet6 fd74:a723:c0d4:ed38:7ddf:16d6:6448:17f1 prefixlen 64
nd6 options=1<PERFORMNUD>
Is this also something that fusion setup? My concern is that the host OS is including the fd74:a723:c0d4:ed38:7ddf:16d6:6448:17f1 address in the in6addr_any set, which I don't want. I'd like to remove this tunnel too, if possible. Thanks again for any help.
Edit: It turns out that utun0 is added and removed by enabling and disabling Back-to-My-Mac.

I have run into various products with similar permissions issues. If you are absolutely, positively sure that the application is safe, then you can use the terminal to run the "xattr" command to remove the com.apple.quarantine attribute, which bypasses Gatekeeper and allows you to run the app and its embedded applications.
Here are basic instructions:
1. Open the Terminal from a user account with administrator privileges.
2. Type the command "sudo xattr -r -d com.apple.quarantine <path to application>"
Hint 1: The path to the application is case sensitive - it must be exactly correct.
Hint 2: Use a backslash before any spaces in the application name, as shown in the example below.
Example: sudo xattr -r -d com.apple.quarantine /Applications/VMware\ Fusion.app
I am having massive problems getting a Nikon Coolscan IV recognised on an XP VM running (now) on Sierra with 8 GB of RAM. When I plug the usb cable in, nothing is recognised.
With a lot of playing around, installing software & drivers, booting reinstalling, reinstalling rebooting ad nauseam, I can finally get the VM to see the scanner, as an IOUSB device in the bar above the OS window (and that connection is automatically connected to the VM, and appears in device manager), but then, NikonScan 4.0.2 just reports that there is no scanner connected.
I got so desperate that I used a few-months old backup of that XP VM on a 2008 Macbook running El Captain with 4GB. INCREDIBLY, immediately I installed the nikon software, the same VM on the McBook sees the USB connection properly as a USB device, identifies it as an LS40 and connects it to NIkonScan without problems! The scanner then works fine. And I installed Mint 18 Mate on the Macbook, which also see the scanner and lets it work immediately with its internal scan app, even without drivers
So I deleted the whole XP VM from the MBP and replaced it with a carbon copy of today's Macbook xp VM. Both computers have the latest version of Fusion
With completely unchanged results. No recognition of the scanner whatsoever. (and when I opened a voyager linux VM, it couldn't see the scanner either, and nor could a Windows 7 VM??)
I also get the impression that the older Macbook runs VMs faster and more stably than the newer, faster MBP which has significantly more memory??
Is there something i am missing or is there some reason why the old Macbook Fusion installation can see the scanner while the newer MP cant?
I have verified that I have admin access on the computer the migprofile.exe resides\run and also on the persona profile share.
When running the actual tool I get this:

This worked for me! There is a long link to the Jason file and then inside Jason file is the download link. The download link contains a hash to be unique for each account.
Hi,
We have vRA 7.0.
How do we license Windows under that?
AFAIKT vRA syspreps a VM and that removes the license. How do I then apply a Windows license to the VM without letting the users know the license key?
Thanks!

Hi, where can I find the link to download vsphere web client 6.5?
Thanks
Hi all,
We're using vRealize Automation 7.0
I need help writing a PowerCLI script -- to run under vRealize Automation 7.0 -- that automatically runs, reads a Windows license key from c:\VRMGuestAgent\site\workitem.xml, and then applies that Windows license to the VM.
Thanks in advance for any help!

Hi,
Just confirming what dlhotka said.
You can safely delete the bootcamp VM, it is just a pointer to the bootcamp partition.
Then recreate it using the menu -> File -> New -> Install From Boot Camp
Of course this is assuming that you can actually run your boot camp machine physically.

It's nice to see that there is at least some progress on this. Hopefully it will be resolved soon.
For myself, however, I do not see the VCIX6-DCV in my transcript. I hold both VCAP5-DCV certs and passed the VCAP6-DCV Deploy Beta exam in June. That should satisfy the "upgrade" requirement for VCIX6-DCV. I have been very patient waiting for the designation. The VCAP6 shows in cert manager and myLearn, but still no sight of VCIX. I just accepted the VCAP badge in Acclaim and saw the VCIX6-DCV badge so I came here looking for any updates.
Then last update I received was that once ALL tracks have their VCAP6 exams past Beta, then the VCIXes would be available in cert manager.
Aside from -NV, does anyone have a VCIX listed in the cert manager?
The vSphere Web Client is included with vCenter Server, see: https://my.vmware.com/web/vmware/details?productId=614&downloadGroup=VC650

Hello,
I have a physical image backup from a Windows 2008 R2 Standard server. The backup was taken with the Windows Server Backup feature. All attempts to restore to another physical machine (similar but not identical hardware) have resulted in BSOD. Is it possible to use VMWare Converter or another tool to ingest the backup and create a virtual machine. If not, would creating a VM, installing WSB, restoring the drives within the VM and then using Converter to ingest the source VM and output another one have a shred of a chance of working?
Open to any suggestions or insight on this and thank you in advance for any feedback. Very much appreciated.
